Papastratos, ION & LAMPSA Hotels are at the top 3 positions in the list of the most attractive employers for 2022.

For the second consecutive year Papastratos is the most attractive employer for 2022, according to the fifth Employer Brand Survey by Randstad Hellas. Among the top three companies is ION, that moved from third to second place, and LAMPSA Hotels at the third place, entering the top ten most attractive employers in Greece for the first time. The criteria that formed the basis of the most attractive employers list for 2022 are attractive salaries and benefits, a pleasant working environment, career development opportunities for employees, long-term job security and work-life balance.

Randstad’s Employer Brand (REBR) Survey is an independent and comprehensive employer survey with more than 163,000 participants in 31 countries worldwide, who evaluated a total of 5,900 companies. It is one of the most detailed surveys on a global basis, studying the attractiveness of the largest companies in terms of employee numbers. The survey highlights the criteria used by potential candidates, while choosing an employer and was conducted for the fifth consecutive year in Greece. 150 companies, the largest in employee numbers, were evaluated. This year's survey included 3,547 people, from 18 to 65 years old, among which were Greek students, company employees, as well as unemployed people. Interviews were conducted online, in January 2022. The research highlights the criteria for selecting an employer, the reasons for staying or changing working environments, the best employer fields according to the survey’s criteria, as well as the value proposition of employers.

the significance of employer branding.

Employer branding is evolving into a very important factor for talent attraction and employee retention, while employers are recognizing the level of commitment of their employees. After all, the more consistent a company is in fulfilling its promises, the more employees' confidence increases. By building a strong employer image, Greek companies highlight those values, inspiring their employees to remain dedicated and satisfied. This is the result of the implementation of a multipurpose strategy, that aims at establishing a reliable and responsible internal and external corporate image, as well as creating a strong connection between employees' personal values and corporate culture.

In 2022, the most important factor when choosing an employer in Greece is the offering of an attractive salary, as well as presenting significant benefits, with the most respondents in support of the above arguments being women aged 55-64 and employees of a higher level of education. Although these factors are very important when choosing an employer - company, most employers received a low score in these categories. In fact, employees aged between 35-54 are the least satisfied when it comes to their salary and the benefits they receive from the current job.

The second and third most important criteria for selecting an employer are a pleasant working environment, as well as the opportunity for career development. These factors are very important for Greek employees. However, they do not seem equally important for employers, since they score low in both criteria - categories.

looking for a new employer: 1 in 5 employees is willing to change work environment.

The marketplace shows great mobility in 2022, as 13% of employees in Greece changed employer in the last half of 2021 (in comparison to 9% in 2020). Employees aged 18-34 (17%) and employees with a higher level of education (13%) are among those who most frequently change their work environment. As in the previous year, 22% of employees stated that they intend to change employer in the first 6 months of 2022, with women (24%) and those aged 18-34 (26%) having the highest intention for mobility.

The trend of office employees intending to quit their job is declining (18% compared to 20% in 2021). However, there is an opposite trend for employees of technical professions and craftsmen, as the 20% of such employees are willing to change their employers within the first semester of 2022 (4% higher compared to a year ago, 16%). Accordingly, 34% of employees, who do not feel safe at work, plan to change jobs in the first half of 2022 (29% in 2021). Whereas only 12% of employees who feel safe at work intend to change jobs during the same period (10% in 2021).

vocational training and career development opportunities.

Skills development and professional growth are now key factors in retaining and attracting new talent and also a critical element for the progress of the marketplace in general. For another year, career opportunities are shown to be important for the most employees in Greece (77%), with the lowest percentages seen in those aged 55-64 (64%), as well as in middle education level employees (74%). On the other hand, office employees (78%) believe that professional development is more important compared to employees of technical professions and craftsmen (69%). It is worth noting that the high percentage seen among Greek employees is far above the European average, with only 59% of European employees stating that career growth is important.

The vast majority of employees (85%) believe that developing skills (reskilling / upskilling) is very important, with the highest percentage seen in women (89%) and employees of high educational level (86%). Both groups stated that they will remain at their current position if their employer offers them the opportunity to learn new skills, a fact which demonstrates the great importance of creating and implementing programs for skills development.

popular job search channels.

According to Randstad’s survey, 39% of Greeks use personal contacts / referrals while searching for a new work environment. At the second place of the most popular job search channels list are the job advertisement websites (30%). Whereas, 23% of employees stated that they were searching for information via Google. Finally, social media platforms are equally valuable tools in job search (21%).

work – life balance.

For 4 in 10 Greeks (37%) the meaning of work has become more important, compared to 26% in Europe. On the other hand, only 18% of the workforce feels that the meaning of work has become less important. The overall attitude of employees towards work has become more positive. Specifically, 3 out of 10 employees (32%) are more positive towards work, with only 23% of employees in all age groups being more negative towards work.

The health crisis undoubtedly contributed to the above results. Working space and hours have become more flexible and therefore, 26% of employees in Greece are working from home compared to 38% of employees in Europe. A percentage that decreased by 21% compared to the previous year, in Greece.

As confirmed by the findings of the Randstad Employer Brand survey, 98% of employees working remotely will continue to do so in the future. Accordingly, the majority of employees that are working remotely believe that they will continue to do so, even with a part-time work from home model.

Work-life balance is also very important for employees when selecting an employer. At the same time, salary stability, career advancements and flexible working conditions are the key to achieving a better work-life balance.

Working flexible hours has been embraced mainly by employees aged 18-24 (33%) and freelancers (38%). Remote work mainly concerns employees with a high level of education (20%), as well as employees aged 35-54 (19%) and 55-64 (26%). Moreover, 23% of employees state that they did nothing to improve their work – life balance, which is especially true for employees aged 35-54 (27%) and 55-64 (32%).

Randstad Employer Brand (REBR) survey confirms that the attractiveness of business, in the meta covid - 19 period, is one of the key criteria for both attracting and retaining talent. Since there is evident mobility in the marketplace, a strong employer’s reputation is a useful tool for companies, in order to enhance their competitiveness and attract talented candidates. By maintaining a powerful employer image and highlighting the values that inspire employees to remain happy and dedicated, companies become positive role models for the Greek market. On behalf of the entire Randstad team, I want to congratulate the winners, and thank them for everything they do for their employees.
